Happy Miercoles! (Wednesday)

Well, Matt is going to change is career plans to become an Ecuadorian weatherman. His prediction about seeing volcanoes and rain was correct again yesterday. We did not see volcanoes from our roof, and it did not rain! Today, Steve saw only a tiny part of Cotopaxi, so Matt's prediction is 10% chance of scattered showers. We will see if that holds true.

We had a good day yesterday of Vacation Bible School and painting. The kids behaved much better and learned about Zaccheus. They loved the photos of themselves! Today the lesson is about Jesus feeding the 5000, and our memory verse is "I am the bread of life." (pan de vida). We finished painting the outer wall, the blue room (picture above of Megan painting the room) and the salon. We only have touch up work to do today, then we are finished with our work here. The building team cleaned up the yard from all of the dirt and supplies so it can be used for the meal this evening. We went back to our hostel and packed the gift bags for the children. They will have a t-shirt, soap, shampoo, silly band, tooth brush, toothpaste, socks, a towel and sidewalk chalk. We will give them out this afternoon at the end of our program. (one picture above is of our team assembling the bags) We had dinner in our hostel (Papa Johns pizza) and played Phase 10 (a longgggg card game). It was fun just hanging out in the hostel.

Bruce - Kathy wants to know if Dave made it to Brazil. She is eagerly awaiting your message!

Thanks again for all of the comments and prayers. We can't believe that our time here is almost over, and are anxiously awaiting our trip back home. Have a blessed day!

  1. Good morning all. Tell weather man Matt that it is only going to be 100 here with a 10% chance of heat stroke. Could that be my wife in the green working hard? Last picture I saw of her from Ecuador she was on a ladder scrapping a fence (2010). Glad all went well with VBS. We miss you guys & gals and send you continued prayers as you finish up your work. Enjoy your day and I know the kids will love the bags.--Enos

You continue to be in our prayers. Please someone give Bekka a big hug for me and tell her I love her and can't wait to see her Saturday.

  5. It sounds like you are doing well. This is not the first time Kathy provided pictures of children in the Southern Hemisphere.

Dave has emailed or pasted entries several times on Facebook. He sent the first message from Panama City and then again when he went to Brazil. He likes the cooler weather in Quito better. These next four days he is take an excursion SW of Manaus, so he is out of touch.

  6. Wow...thanks for the picture of Megan. It's good to see there is more blue paint on the wall then her. :-) She must have gotten a lot of practice while there. You all will definitely be in for a shock when you return to the temperatures here...it's miserable. Can't wait for everyone to get home. Thanks again for all you do...we continue to keep you all in our prayers to complete your work there and to return home safely.

  8. I can say I miss the team and the kids, but I'm not missing the paint fumes. A bunch of us got sick right after we got home, so hoping everyone is good there. Also found out that you guys have a lot more followers, but many are having a hard time posting. I had to try seven times for my first one. So they are reading and looking at the pictures, just unable to post. Going to dinner tonight with Steve's family armed with pictures... they are counting down the days and wanted to say Hi to everyone. Take care, God bless. -Erica

  9. I'm glad you have had time to finish up your projects. What a great feeling. Hey Debbie, I miss you! There's lots to tell you since you've been gone -- have you been praying for me, girl? Keep it up, it's working! Bekka, Sienna was asking about you so we pulled up a map and pointed out your position. She said, "Wow, that's really far." I'm sure all the kids there are loving you just as much as ours do here at home. And I bet they'll all be squealing with delight at the gift bags. Can't wait to hear all about it!

  10. Tonight (Thursday) is probably your last night in Quito before you start the return trip. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed by those at home. You have worked hard and shared the gospel with people of all ages. You have shared the love of God with people in need -- including those just in need of food or basic material things. These folk know you could have stayed at home in a more comfortable lifestyle. Instead, you were willing to go thousands of miles from home to be there for them. Hopefully, they will realize what a great God you serve to do this. Thank you. See you Sunday.
